CHEP 411.3: Global Health Certificate Saskatchewan Community Practicum

This 5-week community engagement practicum offers students a supervised, hands-on learning experience in one of four Saskatchewan Indigenous partner communities, integrating land-based learning and global Indigenous perspectives. Students will be immersed in the cultural, health, and social contexts of Indigenous communities, with guidance from a local field preceptor and the course instructor. The practicum includes an orientation on key topics such as Indigenous health issues, the history of colonization, the reserve system, traditional healing practices, and contemporary social challenges. Emphasizing land-based learning, the course encourages students to connect with the land, community, and traditional knowledge systems, fostering critical reflection on Indigenous issues. Students will have the opportunity to engage in community-based initiatives that address local health and social needs, while exploring global Indigenous perspectives on well-being, resilience, and decolonization.
