Description

This course introduces students to metabolism, which is the sum of chemical processes by which cells extract energy and reducing power from its environment (catabolism) and use these to make the building blocks of macromolecules and the macromolecules themselves (anabolism). The major metabolic pathways involved in the synthesis and breakdown of important biological molecules are explored, along with the mechanisms of regulating these pathways in the body. Medical applications of metabolism, including links between errors in metabolism and human disease, are also discussed

Prerequisite(s): BIOL 120 and BMSC 200.
Note: Students with credit for BIOC 211 will not receive credit for BMSC 230.
