Description

Three modes of heat transfer- conduction, convection, and radiation- will be introduced and covered in this course. One-dimensional and two-dimensional steady-state conductions for planar and radial systems, including extended surfaces will be discussed. As part of transient conduction, lumped-capacitance analysis, systems with spatial temperature distribution, and semi-infinite media will be covered. Velocity, thermal and concentration boundary layers and associated equations; convective heat transfer in external and internal flows (forced convection); and boiling and condensation will be discussed. Introduction of various heat exchanger configurations and relevant heat transfer analyses, as well as the fundamentals of radiation heat transfer are the other important components of this course.

Prerequisite(s): CHE 210 (taken).
Prerequisite or Corequisite(s): CHE 322.
