Description

In this course we will survey the cognitive properties and neural mechanisms of attention. The material will include an overview of the classical and contemporary research and theories of attention, including visual search, spatial orienting of attention, inhibition of return, divided attention, automaticity, and cross modal attention. Behavioural and neurocognitive approaches to studying attention as well as case studies of attentional disorders will also be discussed. We will also make links between attention and other cognitive functions, including memory and consciousness.

Prerequisite(s): One of PSY 252.3, PSY 253.3, PSY 255.3, PSY 256.3, PSY 242 or PSY 246; and PSY 233.3; and PSY 235.3 (or HLST 210).
