Description

The focus of this course is on engaging social justice and health equity within public health practice, with a focus on understanding and addressing systemic inequities in health, upholding the inherent rights of Indigenous Peoples, supporting community-determined health approaches and outcomes, and broader policy and system-level interventions. This course draws on critical theories and empirical evidence to analyze how intersecting systems of power and oppression shape people’s health experiences and outcomes, and how these systems relate to social determinants of health. As well, this course explores strategies for mitigating and transforming structural colonialism and racism, as well as other inequities through public health practice.

Must be enrolled in the Master of Public Health or PhD of Public Health Programs or received permission from the instructor.
