Description

This course provides doctoral students with an overview of the major approaches, methodologies and historiographical debates in the field of early modern European history. The focus is on key political, social and cultural developments in Western Europe during the period 1450 to 1800, including the Renaissance and Reformation, the advent of European empires in the Western Hemisphere, and changing material and popular cultures.

Note: Students may take this course more than once for credit, provided the topic covered in each offering differs substantially.
